~First Impressions: Stranger Things~

This last month brought forth an AMAZING Netfllix Original Series “Stranger Things” and the social medias have been reeling from it. After seeing so many great things on Twitter and Facebook I had to check this series out.My hubby and I sat down one evening and pressed play, I must say no regrets. From the first episode we were hooked. My husband was a child in the 80’s and so he really appreciated the many throwbacks and references to 80’s movies, games and other pop culture.

This series embodied many of the best things from some of our favorite movies like: “Alien”, “Aliens”, “The Thing”, “Stand By Me” and many others. Every episode was good and the end of each one left us wanting more. The young cast did a fantastic job and pretty much out shined any of the older actors. You defiantly form favorites.

The series was good throughout and has a lot of possibility for a continue of greatness in the next season. There are so many things that could be explored and touched upon. I eagerly await the next season, it could not get here fast enough.

What did you think of this series? Who was your favorite character? Let me know in the comments!

First Impressions: Haven’t you heard? Im Sakamoto

A quirky anime about a cool and stylish student named Sakamoto who is the subject of resentment from his fellow male students and the crushes from his female peers (and some of his male ones). He handles every situation with grace and style, though many of the situations are a little silly from sword fighting with a Bee to battleing forces of nature.

The series consists of 13 episodes and is packed with zany fun in each one. Since being simulcasted starting in April I have come across many a posting across internet sites of funny moments. A little late to the game but I finally found this series and think it is def one to sit back and watch.

Have you watched  this one? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments!

~First Impressions: One Punch Man~

One PUUUUUUNNNCCCHHHH!!!!!

So. ~Ahem~ This series aired at the end of this last year and boy did it sweep across the anime community quick! It aired a total of 12 episodes and holy moly is that not nearly enough.

The plot focuses on a hero for fun Saitama who is so powerful he decimates his enemies with just one punch (hence the name). This grows old for Saitama because he craves a equal fight to really get him pumping. Soon he finds himself getting involved with much more serious happenings and meeting a host of quirky (some uncomfortably terrifying) characters. There is a bit of all sorts of comedy and nippits of seriousness in this show. You have cyborgs, martial arts, espers, monsters, aliens and so much more.

My husband and I watched this show together on Hulu while it was simulcasting and loved every bit of it. It is so funny and the fight scenes are pretty great. The main character is unique and its hard to get enough of his emotionless face. There is a bit of everything in this show and we are impatiently awaiting the second season.

Did you watch this show or read the manga? Tell me what you thought about it in the comments!

First Impressions: Assassination Classroom

This anime series was released last year in Japan and was picked up by Funimation for the US release. The first season has 22 episodes and the second season which will have 25 is currently coming out. A live-action movie is also out.

The series revolves around a reject class of high school students from class E that are tasked with trying to assassinate their new teacher. The teacher happens to be an alien octopus like creature who if not assassinated by graduation will destroy the world. The kids soon find out the task of killing Koro-sensei (as they cal him) is next to impossible because of his super human abilities.

Each student has their own troubles and backgrounds but the series seems to focus on one Nagisa who seems to be the weakest in the lot but has the most talent when it comes to blood lust. The cast can be a bit zany and the series takes on a very comical tone with bits of seriousness thrown in here and there.

I find this series very amusing and like that not everything is as it seems.

First Impressions: ~Monster Musume~ (mature anime)

Okay, so I had been a little familiar with the series “Monster Musume” quite a while ago as it was a random manga I had looked at while at the bookstore. Very quickly when you look through a few pages you know exactly what kind of manga it is, ecchi overflowing. I thought it was amusing but not enough to read through and get into the story. Now fast forward and the anime version is being released. I figured “eh why not” and checked it out, now I can’t wait for the episodes to come out fast enough!

The anime is so awkwardly hilarious, I find myself laughing throughout every episode. The shenanigans these monster girls get into are crazy and super amusing through and through! But be warned this is a mature anime, lots of boobies and questionable actions.

The story revolves around a young man named Kimihito who takes on monster girls (being forced to originally) for a homestay exchange program. The knowledge of different humanoid species has been acknowledged by the government and so to learn more about each other they have made it to where other species can come stay in the human areas to learn. Kimihito winds up with seven girls to take care of all of different species.

This series is so funny and as long as you are old enough defiantly check it out! Have you read or watched this series? Tell me what you think about it! Which girl is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

New Game Obsession: Terraria

My family and I have gone throughout several Minecraft obsessed periods where we would sit down and pretty much continuously play Minecraft for weeks at a time. Since we’ve been waiting for an update for what seems like forever, we have been looking at a few different games to all play as a family. A few months ago one of the Xbox gold games we got for free was Terraria. My husband, daughter and I started playing and quickly began to enjoy all the possibilities available in the game. The only thing we didn’t much like was the split screen and how small everything was on there. I had to sit close to the screen to see. We found out shortly after we started that the PC version had a lot more things and exclusives, so we slacked off building on the Xbox version until we were able to get in on PC.

Once summer began and all the sales started going crazy we quickly snatched up a bundle of 4 Terraria games so that we would each be able to play on our laptops and desktop. I found it easier to play on the PC, and we quickly began to build up our village and explore much quicker than before. We like the wide variety of items you can craft and things you can harvest and collect. It’s cool to welcome all the villagers and find people here and there throughout the world. The boss fights are exciting and crazy, and you always get some great loot.

It is an addicting game, and it is super fun to play with family and friends. Check it out and let me know what you think of it! Have you been playing it already? What are some of your favorite things about the game? Tell me about it in the comments!

~Ranma 1/2~ Don’t get wet!

Ranma 1/2 was the second series I was introduced to that was created by Rumiko Takahashi the first being “Inuyasha”. There are 38 volumes of manga, over 150 episodes of anime and even a few full-length films. I always thought this series was very comedic and silly but also had a few serious moments here and there that made you closer to the characters. Warning, however, there is lots of boobies all throughout the series, it is mainly about a boy who gets turned into a girl if he gets wet with cold water so…yeah he has no shame. 6_6

The story revolves around a boy named Ranma, who fell into a cursed spring along with his father on a training mission. The aftermath of them falling into the spring Ranma turns into a girl any time he is splashed with cold water, and his father turns into a large panda. They come to live with another family the Tendo’s who own a dojo. Ranma is betrothed to one of the three daughters, and it is decided the lucky girl is tough as nails Akane who seems to think Ranma is irritating and a clod. The hilarity ensues as multiple love triangles form, and each person has their own curses and past.

A large part of the plot is the various types of martial arts each person uses to fight with. Some of the moves are wacky but none the less interesting. Lots of rivalries occur between the characters, and the fights are always entertaining and fun. Check it out and let me know what you think about this series!

~My Love Story! ( Ore Monogatari!)~

My Love Story! is a manga as well as an anime series that is airing on Crunchyroll. It is so funny and good! It centers around a behemoth of a high school boy named Takeo, his good looking apathetic friend Makoto and the super sweet and cute girl Yamato.

Takeo is used to never being liked by the opposite sex since all the girls always go for his best friend, Suna. He is loyal, strong and quite the hero without thinking about it very much. He is a goob much of the time to Suna’s great amusement. One day he saves a girl Yamato from a train pervert and immediately falls in love with her. After several misunderstandings on his part, they start dating making a very awkward first love couple that is very cute and silly.

There is a lot of emphasis on not judging a book by its cover and making sure to get to know people for who they are and not what they look like. So far I love this anime and have laughed so hard several times at some of the crazy antics this boy gets into. Defiantly check this one out!

~My love from another star~

Okay so I just began watching this series about three days ago and right away am extremely impressed. It is very well written and put together. The director has done a great job and the story is fantastic. The characters all have very individual personality’s and its not just another fluffy romance drama. It is serious and has a lot of darker things in the background.

It centers around a cold and distant alien from another star Do Min Joon who has been on earth for 400 years, he once loved a young girl that he met when he first arrived. The girl died from helping him and so he is against interfering with other humans. He begins to change however when he meets the famous actress Cheon Song Yi who years before the main story time looked exactly like the girl he loved 400 years before.

Song Yi is arrogant and a little dumb often misspeaking and then having to deal with the tornado of rude, cruel comments from people online judging her every move. Song Yi is close friends with Lee Hwi Kyung who is the second son of a large corporation, he has also been in love with Song Yi for nearly 14 years. He is protective and a little pushy when it comes to Song Yi, he does not like Min Joon at all. Hwi Kyung has an older brother Lee Jae Kyung who you realize right away is not a good guy, in fact he is a very bad man who kills anyone who gets in his way.

There is a lot of awkwardness here and there when it comes to Song Yi’s somewhat ignorant attitude but after awhile you find yourself liking her a bit more. There is a lot of things going on right off the bat and find yourself pulled into this fantastic drama.

Have you watched this drama before? What did you think of it? Did you like it or maybe not? Let me know in the comments! :3

DeadMan Wonderland

This series is very violent and has a lot of fowl language and so is defiantly not for kids. It aired in 2011 and has a mere 12 episodes.

It follows a boy Ganta who experiences a terrible disaster as a child that nearly destroyed all of Japan. Ten years later he is a normal high school boy who watches as his class is brutally murdered by this strange “Red Man”. He is framed for the massacre and sent to a high security prison/ amusement park. Once there Ganta meets Shiro who seems to know him but he has forgotten her. After a close call where Ganta nearly dies a power awakens inside him where his blood is used as a weapon. He is taken to a special area of the prison where the Deadmen live. The Deadmen are prisoners that have a special virus where they can use their own blood to fight.

They are forced into fights against each other where the loser either dies or has to play a penalty game where they lose body parts. There is a lot of inner politics and turmoil obviously. The ‘Red Man” shows up here and there and Ganta wants his revenge. Slowly his past seems to return and many things come to light.

I thought it was an interesting story and liked it just fine. Once again it is for a mature audience.
