~Yuri on Ice!!!~ First Impressions

So this is an interesting one for me let me tell you. I usually steer clear of any of the “boy group sports anime” after having tried to watch a few and them fall flat with me. I will always give series a try though and after hearing so much about this one I caved and started watching it. For whatever reason I was pulled in quick and hard and binge watched the entire series in just two sittings (ive watched it twice at this point).

I think part of it has to do with the fact that I enjoy watching real ice skating more so than other sports as well as my adoration for slightly yaoi stories (ill just admit that right now). I enjoyed the animation and the skating sequences were beautiful along with fun characters all around. There was so much behind the main character when it came to anxiety and feelings of not being good enough I think a lot of people can relate to as well.

I think this one is worth a try but will say I do not think this series is for everyone. If you do watch it let me know what you thought about it in the comments! Also who was your favorite character? I would say I like Yuri the best at this point because he is fairly relatable .

~TravelBear~ Memphis

A few weeks ago a friend and I went for a birthday weekend to her home town Memphis TN. We had a blast! Memphis is so rich in music history when it comes to Blues and Elvis with many things themed as such. We had fantastic food everywhere we went from “The Bayou” to “Huey’s” for amazing seafood to the best burgers and BBQ.

Beale Street was filled with great stores and taverns and pubs that was a blast walking around during the day and at night. “A.Schwab’s” store was an absolute delight to visit, between the vast general store, to the amazing old fashioned soda shop where I had the best ice cream ive ever had, and a floor with lots of the store and Memphis’s history. We returned to Beale Street at night for the colorful and busy nightlife and spent our time in “The Absinth Room” enjoying the European drink and meeting fun and interesting people.

In just two days we went all over Downtown and Midtown Memphis and went to a Crawfish Festival, ate great food, saw historical buildings and had such a fun time.

Have you ever been to Memphis? How was your trip? What did you see and where did you eat? Let me know all about it in the comments!

K-pop The Ultimate Audition (aka Extream Survival)

This series came out in 2012 and aired 14 episodes. It has recently been put on Netflix so I decided to check it out. My first impression of the story was that is was very much like “You’re Beautiful” however much more awkward. Some of the characters are just not as likeable and seem a little off compared to many other dramas.

It follows a girl Sueng-Yeon who plays classical piano because of her parents wishes, she however has a deep love for hiphop type music and fails a test at the classical school she was attending. She isn’t able to return home to her parents for fear of the trouble she will be in and instead decides she is going to do what she wants. She helps her close friend get into a band in training that he has always wanted to be in, she gets in too even though its a boy band.

The juniors have to deal with the sweet on the outside M2 band leader Woo Hyun who is selfish and cruel in attitude. He and Sueng-Yeon have several clashes. From the beginning you know that Woo Hyun is going to be the jerk who softens because of the heroine and you grow to like him. However my impression was “Im not sure if he will ever be very likeable”. There are a lot of rushed through storys and many things that aren’t explained.

I wasn’t super impressed with this series but I didn’t dislike it.

Have you watched this series? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!

~Favorite Japanese Bands and songs~

I started becoming interested in Japanese music and bands when I was around 11 years old and I was widening my repertoire of anime series I would watch. The first song I just immediately fell in love with was an ending to “Inuyasha” called “Fukai Mori” by Do As Infinity. It sounded so amazing and even though at the time I couldn’t understand the words it was just so beautiful. Since those days there are a lot more bands and songs I know of now here are my top bands and songs I love. Check them out and tell me what you think of them. đŸ™‚

1. Top band is still: Do As Infinity- their sound is so emotional and pulls you in. My favorite songs are “Fukai Mori” and “Rakuen”

2.Utada Hikaru- She is such a great singer and her songs are fantastic. The first time I heard her music was in “Kingdom Hearts” and I immediately wanted to find her other stuff. My top songs for her are: “Stay Gold”, “Goodbye Happiness” and “Simple and Clean”.

3.Versailles Philharmonic Quintet- A visual kei band that I had the pleasure of seeing live several years ago before one of the members, Jasmine You passed away. They are gorgeous to look at as well as have a Castlevania like feel to the sound. My favorite songs are: “Aristocrats symphony” and “The Revenant Choir”

4.Rei Fu- First song of hers I heard was an ending to the series “Bleach” called “Life is like a boat” which is still my favorite of her songs. I also like the song “One-bite” and “Suki”

5. A very quirky and interesting singer is: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu- I like her and my husband gets such a kick out of all her songs and music videos. I showed her video “PonPonPon” to him and my daughter and it created a obsession for him ha ha. My top songs for her are “Candy Candy” and “Kira Kira Killer”. If you have never seen any of her stuff go now and check her out, it is an experience. 0_0.

So these are my top 5 for now. Have you ever listened to their stuff? What’s some of your favorite Japanese Bands or singers? Tell me in the comments! :3
